Where self-evidence exists, gratitude is hard to find
It is not self-evident.
Nothing is self-evident.
A warm shower in the morning, fresh food waiting in the fridge.
Your partner giving you a kiss before you leave for work.
That we live in peace and fill our days with things that may not really matter.
That the sun rises in the morning and says goodbye in the evening to make way for the night.
That I am here now.
That you are here.
That we are here.
That we may experience the world in all her glory.
That we may see the stars shining in the sky after a day of bathing in all the resources that the earth has to offer.
Where there is self-evidence, gratitude is hard to find.
Every moment provides an opportunity to pause.
To realize that this moment, even this moment, is not self-evident.
That this moment has been given to you, but that it could be your last.
Self-evidence is a poison.
Awareness is the medicine.
Gratitude is the result.
With love,
Pim
